Well, if you've made it this far I'll just assume that my directions weren't TOO confusing!! :) Hope you made it in all right. I've never done (or seen) anything like this before...so who knows how it's going to work. I guess we'll see, huh?? :) I'm going to start out by just explaining all of your style options and how this editor works. We'll get to the HTML, pictures and other more complicated issues later...but it's always easier once you know your way around. Righty-o? :) So now, let's check out the left hand side of your screen. See all those white words with arrows pointing to them? "Update With Basic Homebuilder" "Layout" "Backgrounds" etc. Those are all very important and not hard to figure out, but I'll walk you through it anyway, just in case.

Let's get started!
|
|
The first one you notice at the top is "Update With Basic Homebuilder". All that does is take you back to the file list you were JUST AT. That link is handy for when you've got more than one page...so that after you're done updating one of them, you just click that and go pick a different page to work on. But you don't need that right now. So let's move on! :) "Layout" is where you decide where you want what. Go ahead and click on it. You'll still be able to read this. See all those pictures of tiny pages at the top of your edit window? Those are your choices. You can play around with them....nothing you do here can effect what I've got written. Have fun with it! Pick one that you like best and then hit "Save" (it's the second from the bottom link on the left side of your screen.) See, that's not so hard, right? (You can change your Layout at ANY time...whether you've got nothing on your page or if you've got TONS of stuff on your page.) Now it's time for "Backgrounds". Right now your "background" is white. But it doesn't have to stay that way! They've got a lot of colors to choose from. Go ahead and click on "backgrounds". The top of your editing window should have just been FILLED with little boxes of colors. Those are your choices. You can pick ANY color that you want to (as long as you can still read the text...which you can change as well. We'll get to that in a second.) Again, when you find one you like, just hit "save". "Wallpapers" are a lot like backgrounds...except they aren't just solid colors. (Think of Backgrounds as paint and Wallpaper as...well...WALLPAPER! :) ) Wallpapers are graphics and designs that you can use instead of just plain colors. Check it out! Click on "Wallpaper". This is EXACTLY like choosing a background. Just click on ones that you want to see full size. If you don't like it, try a different one. When you find a favorite, click "Save". OR, if you decide that you don't like any of them and you want to just stick with the "background" you already picked out, click the square at the very top on the left. THAT is your original background. :) And as always, hit "Save". "Text Colors" are a lot of fun. There are so many options and ways to make your page look TOTALLY different. So let's try that...click "Text Colors". Ok...now you see three columns of color blocks, right? You'll need to pick THREE different colors this time, not just one as you did with the background. You'll need one for your main text (the part you're reading right now), your links (that I'll be showing you how to make later...) and for VISITED links (that way people who come to your site will know where they've been and where they haven't! :) ). Again, just play around with it until you find colors that you like and go together well (AND make sure you can read them on your background!). Then...what do you do? :) Click "Save"!!

You're almost done!!!

Now it's time to jump into the MOST IMPORTANT PART of the Basic Homebuilder. The "Text Editor". This is where your page comes to life and you get to totally, completely decide what goes where. And, since you're familiar with e-mail, you should be very good at this. :) Ready? Click "Edit Text" then scroll down the the THIRD large text box you see. Did you find it??? :) This is the page's skeleton - without all the colors and graphics...these are the BONES. :) You probably recognize these text boxes because they look a bit like where you write an e-mail. And the "Text Editor" IS a lot like writing an e-mail, except whatever you write appears on the page. In order to show you how this works...I thought it'd be cool for you to write a little message here. Do so between the ~*~ lines down below. Ok?? :) ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Now you'll want to "apply" that text to your page. To do this, simply go up to the top window (the one where the color blocks had been before) and scroll down a bit. See the arrow button next to the word "Apply"? Hit that. :) Then of course, you hit "Save".
Well, there's only one more thing to tell you about, and that's "Pictures". Complicated little boogers, I'm afraid. ;) As you can see, Fortunecity has provided us with some LOVELY window pictures. (Every new page starts out with these windows.) Click on "Pictures". Your three window pictures will appear in the top of the editing screen. Click on the one you want to change. (You can change all of them [one at a time] or none of them. Depending on what you want!) This will bring you to a list of the other pictures Fortunecity has to offer. They don't have a very big selection, but this will at least get you started. Choose a menu. Each one has a few pictures in them. All you have to do is click on one to put it on your page. As always, play around with them untill you find one you like! Then hit "Save". When you want to change one of the other windows just hit "Pictures" again and this time select one of the others.
Well there you have it!!! You've just had a crash course in FortuneCity Basic Homebuilder!!! :) Feel free to take your time with this...make sure you've got everything down. Once you're done with it...just let me know and I'll come back and prepare another "lesson". Okey dokey? Have fun! E-mail me with any questions or whatever.
